The Objective of
Juncata Juvant Friendly Society
To provide assistance to persons who have been deported to Guyana, for resettlement into Guyanese Society.
The
necessity for such a Program arose from investigation which revealed
that individuals who were deported, on arrival in Guyana, are
subsequently released into society and left to their own devices with
very little resources. A number of these individuals are often
without family ties, having left with their entire families in
their early years, and sometimes, relatives who are contacted, tend to
treat them with discrimination. Society stigmatizes them and some
gradually find themselves involved in deviant behaviours
Goals and Objectives of Involuntary Re-migrant Support
- To have an established office, opened every day where persons who have
been deported, could obtain information on the available Social
Services and relevant support and assistance.
- Provision of assistance to locate family and maintain family contact.
- Assistance to obtain much needed personal items such as Birth Certificate, I.D. card, etc.
- The provision of a meal and change of clothing on arrival (if needed).
- Guidance and Counseling for resettlement.
- Availability of a mutual support group.
In the long term:
- Providing temporary shelter (a half way house)
- The development of skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
Currently, The Program offers membership to all persons, of both sexes, who have been deported.
These individuals are the beneficiaries of the services offered.
At the commencement of the Program, the types of assistance provided are:
- A referral system for linkage to available Welfare Services & religious programs,
- A welcome package of much needed small items on arrival;
- Encouragement and develop-ment of Entrepreneurship;
- Help in befriending and facilitating a mutual support group
- Guidance and counseling;
- Skills training & Job placement.
